  I grew up in Oak Lawn, but don't recall ever visiting Krauss' in my younger years. Found myself back in town with an old friend from the neighborhood who now lives in Chicago Ridge, and after we finished with some business we were attending to, we were thinking about where to go for a quick lunch. Billy Boys was always a favorite, but I suggested Al's for an Italian beef for something different -- my friend was unfamiliar with Al's. Not knowing that the 95th st. Location had closed (they all seem to except the ones on Taylor St. and Ontario St. downtown) we had to make another choice. My buddy suggested Krauss'.
  
  Well we really weren't in the mood for Portillos or one of the noisy, crowded places overrun with Millenials, so Krauss' it was. Though it had been a few years since he was last there, he said their food has always been great, and they were a local icon that was more in lign with our mood given the nestalgia I was feeling visiting my old haunts. Well They didn't disappoint.
  
  Krauss is like stepping back in time, in a very good way. It is dimly lit, with minimal light streaming in through the ice cube Windows, but cheerily punctuated with various lights, mirrors, and incandescent beer signs. And wood tables, chairs, and a bar that reminded me of a tavern my grandma owned on 18th and Sangamon in the 1950s and early 1960s. The service at Krauss was friendly, and the food like home cooking. I had a beef and sausage combo with onion rings that rivaled the best I've had around Chicago. I glanced at the sign for their Friday all you can eat fish fry, thinking I must find some reason to return to town again soon to try that out, and kick back for another dose of good conversation and nostalgia.
  
  Many of the places that defined Oak Lawn back in the day are gone now. Wolfs Bakery, Oak Lawn Pet Shop, Dove Candies an Soda Fountain, Vellie's Coffee Cup, etc. But a few treasures remain, like Krauss, Palermo's, Foxes on Cicero, Freshline Foods. In some ways, you can go back!

  It's a local bar and it's very quirky. I always enjoy the quirky hangings on the wall. The crowd can be mixed but it may be for a bit older, but there's plenty of stuff to do like playing darts, games, and jukebox. The food, the staff and environment is good.

  Food was good sevice was excellent, bar tender named Nichol was friendly and on top of my drinks. Quick and continues, just the way i like it.
